Alkaline Elixir

Alkaline Elixir

I drink this elixir first thing in the morning to start my day in an alkaline state. It's important to keep your body in an alkaline environment - too much acidity causes inflammation and disease. While I personally love and enjoy the taste of this drink, my boyfriend isn't such a fan. It's really good for you but it may be an acquired taste (at least I'm honest, right?) Prepare it at room temperature or if you prefer something warm in the morning - use warm water (just do not use hot water so you don't destroy the beneficial enzymes).

Chlorophyll is the green pigment in a plant that helps to transfer light into energy. It's rich in magnesium and therefore it's highly alkalizing in the body (hence the drink name). It is both healing and detoxifying and it can bind to and help remove heavy metals from the body, reduce body odor, fight against candida, support bone and blood health & boosts the immune system.

Meyer lemons are also alkalizing, cleansing & detoxifying. Citrus flavonoids help with digestion and vitamin C boosts the immune system.

Raw honey can help alleviate pollen allergies if harvested locally. Talk with your local beekeeper, farmer's market or co-op-and ask them which honey is best for allergies. Honey is also packed with antioxidants like polyphenols which have been shown help to reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.

Makes: One 16-ounce serving

What You'll Need:

  • 16 ounces filtered water (or alkaline water if you fancy)
  • 1 Tbsp liquid chlorophyll - I prefer the mint flavor from World Organic
  • Juice from 1/2 meyer lemon - you can use regular lemons also but I love the taste of meyer
  • 1 tsp raw, locally-sourced honey (optional)

To Make:

Combine all ingredients in a glass jar with a lid - I simply reuse a glass jar from a local juice shop. Shake until it's fully mixed and drink up. Make sure to shake periodically if you notice the chlorophyll separating.
